Groundnut seller in Lagos defiles minor

 

Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday, July 1, sentenced a 21-year-old groundnut trader, Sunday Uche, to life imprisonment for defiling a four year-old-girl
 
Uche was dragged before the court on a count of defilement by penetration preferred against him by the state, to which he pleaded not guilty. According to the prosecution counsel, I.D. Solarin, the offence committed by Uche contravenes Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State. The court heard that the incident occurred on February 2, 2017, in the house of the convict.
 

Uche, who worked as a groundnut trader, defiled the minor in his home after she came to beg for groundnuts.

Hotel collapse in Abuja

 A four-storey building attached to the Westbrook Hotel in the Garki area of the Federal Capital Territory collapsed on Monday night, July 1.

 
Many people were believed to be trapped in the rubble. 
 
Eyewitnesses claim some trapped persons were pulled out from the debris and taken to the hospital.

An X user by the name Nnamdi Onu has suggested that proper approvals be given to the right bodies before construction and that such incident could have been averted if this was done

Isaac fayose suggests a solution to the insecurities faced in the south east

 

Brother of former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose, Isaac fayose has suggested a possible solution to the ongoing insecurity in Nigeria’s South-East region.

In a video statement on Monday via X, Fayose suggested that the President  could put an end on the security crisis by releasing and collaborating with the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

Taking an olive branch from  former President Goodluck Jonathan’s approach in the Niger Delta, Fayose stated, “If President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan can give contract to Tompolo to have peace in the Niger Delta… why can’t we do the same in the South East?”

Government Ekpemupolo popularly known as Tompolo is a former militant commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta and was reportedly engaged by the Jonathan administration to help secure oil installations in the region.

• The US Supreme Court rules former presidents are entitled to absolute immunity from prosecution for official acts taken while in office, but have no immunity for unofficial acts

• The landmark decision means the federal election interference case against Donald Trump will return to a lower court which will then decide how to apply this ruling

• The trial in that case was postponed pending a ruling on the immunity claim, and will now likely be delayed further

• Prosecutors in that case allege Trump pressured officials to reverse the 2020 election result and sought to exploit the Capitol riot on 6 January 2021 in an effort to stay in power

• The Supreme Court ruled 6-3, with Justice Sonia Sotomayor among those opposing the decision. She said she did so with "fear for our democracy" and "the president is now a king above the law"

NAF Helicopter crash

 An Air Force helicopter belonging to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) crashed in the early hours of Monday morning in Tami village located in the Igabi LGA of Kaduna state, Daily Trust reports.

    Eyewitness who did not want to be mentioned said the incident occurred at approximately 5:00 am, causing significant alarm among local residents.

The helicopter, was on a routine operational flight, when it experienced technical difficulties that led to the crash.

Fortunately, the pilot managed to execute emergency protocols effectively, ensuring his own survival.

Eyewitnesses at the scene said that the pilot emerged from the wreckage uninjured. 

Daily Trust gathered that residents of Tami village quickly mobilised to the crash site, offering assistance where possible and expressing relief that no life was lost.

It is reported that a team of military officers from the Nigerian Air Force swiftly arrived at the scene to secure the area and conduct an initial investigation.
